    How Admission Works — DME Assam, Not Just MCC

    MBBS admission in Assam is based entirely on NEET UG rank and is managed jointly by two bodies:

    • 85% State Quota seats are counselled by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, and require a valid Assam domicile certificate
    • 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats are filled through MCC, open to candidates from any state

    Two institutions in Assam — AIIMS Guwahati and ESIC Medical College, Beltola — are separate from the DME system and have their seats filled 100% by MCC, not the state counselling process.

    Courses Available

    • UG: MBBS (across government medical colleges) and BDS (at a smaller number of dental colleges)
    • PG: MD/MS is offered at several of the state's medical colleges, with seats split between state and All India NEET PG counselling
    • Additional DNB-affiliated PG and super-speciality seats are available at select government hospitals

    Assam's Compulsory Rural Service Bond

    Students admitted under Assam's state quota must complete a mandatory rural health service period after MBBS completion. Failure to comply attracts a penalty of ₹30 lakh, payable to the Assam Health and Family Welfare Department — one of the strictest bond enforcement rules among Indian states.
