    How MBBS Admission Works

    MBBS admission is based on NEET UG rank, with state counselling conducted by the Atal Medical & Research University, Himachal Pradesh (in coordination with the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Shimla):

    • Government colleges (except AIIMS Bilaspur): 15% All India Quota (AIQ) via MCC, and 85% Himachal Pradesh State Quota, requiring HP domicile
    • AIIMS Bilaspur is a distinct case — 100% of its seats are filled through MCC, with no state quota reservation at all, making it open equally to candidates from any state

    Mandatory Rural Service

    Students admitted to Himachal Pradesh government medical colleges under the state quota are bound by a compulsory rural service requirement after completing their internship — an important factor to plan for if targeting postgraduate studies immediately after MBBS.

    Postgraduate (MD/MS) Admission

    NEET PG-qualified candidates can apply for MD/MS across a handful of colleges offering postgraduate seats, split 50% MCC AIQ and 50% Himachal Pradesh State Quota (via the state PG counselling committee). Government colleges also offer some of the highest PG resident stipends in North India, reportedly ranging from ₹65,000 to over ₹1,00,000 per month depending on year and specialization.

    Super Speciality

    Super-speciality (DM/MCh) programs in Himachal Pradesh are currently concentrated almost entirely at IGMC Shimla, the state's sole institution offering these seats.
