About Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery
BHMS is the undergraduate degree in Homeopathic medicine, one of the officially recognized alternative medicine systems in India. The course trains students in the principles of Homeopathy as laid down by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, covering subjects such as Organon of Medicine, Homeopathic Materia Medica, Repertory, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Community Medicine, and clinical subjects. The 5.5-year program includes 4.5 years of academic curriculum and 1 year of mandatory internship in a recognized homeopathic hospital. Students learn to take detailed patient case histories, identify constitutional remedies, and manage both acute and chronic diseases using ultra-diluted homeopathic preparations. BHMS graduates are registered under the Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH). Admission is through NEET UG under the AYUSH category. Government homeopathic colleges offer subsidized education, while private colleges charge ₹50,000–2,00,000 per year. Top colleges include National Institute of Homeopathy (NIN) Kolkata and DR. B.R. Sur Homoeopathic Medical College (Delhi).
