    How MBBS Admission Works — DME TN

    MBBS admission is based on NEET UG rank, with state counselling conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu via tnmedicalselection.net:

    • Government colleges: 85% Tamil Nadu State Quota and 15% All India Quota (AIQ) via MCC
    • Private colleges: 100% of seats filled through DME TN's Single Window counselling, including Management and NRI quotas
    • Deemed universities (SRM, Saveetha, Sri Ramachandra, Chettinad, etc.) — admit exclusively through MCC, not DME TN

    Tamil Nadu is an Open State for Management Quota seats — non-domicile candidates from any state can apply for Management and NRI Quota seats in private colleges through DME TN.

    The 7.5% Government School Quota — A Genuinely Unique TN Policy

    Tamil Nadu operates a distinctive horizontal reservation: students who studied continuously from Class 6 to Class 12 in a Tamil Nadu Government School are eligible for a special 7.5% quota, under which the state government pays full tuition, hostel, and mess fees — even if the student is allotted a seat in a private medical college. This scheme has no direct equivalent in most other states.

    A Notably Complex Reservation Structure

    Tamil Nadu's reservation system includes multiple sub-categories rarely seen elsewhere — for instance, within the 18% SC quota, 16% is specifically earmarked for the Arunthathiyar community. The state's 69% total reservation (BC, BCM, MBC/DNC, SC, SCA, ST) notably does not include EWS within the state quota framework, unlike most other states.

    Post-MBBS Bond

    Government quota MBBS graduates in Tamil Nadu are typically bound to a 5-year service commitment or a financial penalty of around ₹5 lakh for non-compliance.
