About DM Cardiology
DM Cardiology is one of India's most coveted super-speciality degrees, training candidates to become expert cardiologists capable of managing complex heart diseases through medical and interventional approaches. The course covers advanced cardiovascular physiology, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology (angioplasty, stenting), cardiac imaging, heart failure management, and preventive cardiology. The 3-year program involves intensive clinical postings in the Cardiology OPD, CCU (Coronary Care Unit), Catheterization Laboratory, and Echocardiography labs. Candidates perform and independently report echocardiograms, assist and eventually perform coronary angiographies, angioplasties, and other interventional procedures. Research in the form of a dissertation is mandatory. With cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of death in India, the demand for qualified cardiologists far exceeds supply. DM Cardiology seats are available in institutions like AIIMS New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, SGPGI Lucknow, NIMHANS, and select private medical universities. Only candidates with MD General Medicine or MD Paediatrics are eligible to apply.
