Medical Colleges in Gujarat 2026 – MBBS, ACPUGMEC & Admission Guide

Gujarat is one of India's largest medical education hubs, home to a mix of State Government, GMERS (Government-aided), Private, and Deemed medical colleges, along with the central institution AIIMS Rajkot. The oldest and most prestigious is B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, established in 1946. You can explore the complete, filterable list of medical colleges in Gujarat directly above.

How MBBS Admission Works in Gujarat

MBBS admission is based on NEET UG rank, with seats counselled by the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) via the portal medadmgujarat.org:

    • 85% Gujarat State Quota in government and GMERS colleges, requiring a valid Gujarat domicile certificate
    • 15% All India Quota (AIQ) in government colleges, filled through MCC
    • 100% of private and deemed college seats are also filled through ACPUGMEC state-level counselling, not MCC

AIIMS Rajkot is a separate case — being a central government institute, its seats are filled entirely through MCC counselling, outside the ACPUGMEC process.

Gujarat is considered a "closed state" for MBBS admissions — Gujarat domicile candidates get priority across all rounds, and non-domicile candidates are only considered for vacant seats after state counselling concludes, or through the AIQ/NRI routes.

Government vs GMERS vs Private vs Deemed

    • State Government colleges — the most affordable, with the lowest tuition and highest demand
    • GMERS colleges — government-aided institutes with slightly higher fees than pure government colleges but still subsidized
    • Private self-financing colleges — higher fees, with 15% of seats reserved under Management Quota via ACPUGMEC (no direct/offline admission permitted)
    • Deemed universities — filled largely through MCC-linked paid-seat counselling with premium fee structures

    Gujarat's Tiered Rural Service Bond

A distinctive feature of Gujarat's system: the compulsory rural service bond penalty differs by college type. Students in Government colleges face approximately ₹20 lakh penalty (or 1 year rural service) for non-compliance, while those in GMERS colleges face a comparatively lower penalty of around ₹2 lakh.

    Postgraduate (MD/MS) Admission

NEET PG-qualified candidates apply through ACPPGMEC, Gujarat's dedicated postgraduate counselling authority, separate from ACPUGMEC (which handles UG admissions only).

    Courses Available in Gujarat

    • UG: MBBS and BDS, across government, GMERS, private, and deemed institutions
    • PG: MD/MS, available extensively across government, GMERS, private, and deemed colleges
    • Super Speciality: DM/MCh seats available at select government and private institutions

    Plan Your Admission

Use MedicalSeat's NEET UG College Predictor for MBBS or NEET PG Predictor for postgraduate courses to check your realistic chances across Gujarat's government, GMERS, private, and deemed medical colleges based on your NEET rank, domicile status, and category.
